Forgiveness
Articles in this archive provide some perspective to those who struggle, at least occasionally, with thoughts of pain from the past. The trauma resulting from bad decisions or things that someone else said or did to us, directly or indirectly, can be very difficult to overcome and an obstacle to a better life. The decision to release yourself or others of the burden of thoughts of resentment for what occurred is forgiveness. It’s not saying that what happened is okay. It is simply making the decision to no longer hold on to the lingering anger, thoughts of retribution, overwhelming guilt, or a stated or unstated expectation that the wrongdoer must do some specific thing ostensibly to make things right. All such unhappy backward-looking ruminations that exist rent-free in your mind are like a thief, stealing valuable time and draining you of mental and emotional energy that is better directed at making your future the best it can be.
